An 81-year-old Lawrence man was found unresponsive in the water Monday morning at Lone Star Lake, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The office was notified around 6:30 a.m. Monday after a boater at Lone Star found the man. The man was brought to shore, but life-saving measures were unsuccessful, said George Diepenbrock, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

An investigation found that the 81-year-old was part of a group that regularly swims at the lake. He had broken off from the group to head back to shore and a short time later was found unresponsive in the water, Diepenbrock said. No foul play is suspected.
