A child called 911 when a small fire started in a duplex on Sunday night.

Around 7:25 p.m., Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to 2904 Crestline Drive after a juvenile called 911 to report a fire in the home. Firefighters located a smoldering fire inside and extinguished it. The fire was caused by improper use of an open flame device, Division Chief Tom Fagan said.

Two people were injured and transported to the hospital, Fagan said. A property damage estimate was not immediately available.
