A Baldwin City man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly firing a gun at a downtown Baldwin City sports bar and the city library.
According to a news releases from the Baldwin City Police Department, Junah Augustus Sisney, 20 of Baldwin City, allegedly fired multiple rounds outside The Bullpen, 811 Eighth St., before shooting into an occupied vehicle at the Baldwin City Public Library, 700 Eighth St., and circling back to the Bullpen and firing more rounds into the sports bar before fleeing.
Baldwin City officers and Douglas County sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle and arrested a suspect without incident, according to the initial release.
Further investigation confirmed that gunshots had been fired at both locations, police said.
Douglas County Jail booking logs show that Sisney was booked into the jail on Friday evening. A news release from the Baldwin City Police on Sunday said he was jailed on suspicion of six counts of attempted capital murder, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, criminal use of a weapon and aggravated assault.
“We are grateful no one was injured in this incident,” Baldwin City Police Chief Mike Pattrick said in the release. “We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the multiple Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies who provided invaluable assistance with the investigation, and commend our own Officer Vanessa Schmalz and Officer Ace Butrum on their brave and decisive work.”
