A man was taken to the hospital Friday after an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lawrence.

Police responded around 9:30 p.m. to the 1800 block of West 23rd Street to a report of a shooting, according to the Lawrence Police Department call log.

When emergency services arrived, the man told police that he was unloading the gun when it discharged, said Laura McCabe, a spokesperson with the Lawrence Police Department. The man was then taken to an area hospital with injuries to his leg that were not life-threatening, McCabe said.
