Emergency crews responded Wednesday morning to a reported residential fire in central Lawrence. Investigators later concluded that the fire was caused by “a vaping device failure while charging.”

Around 9 a.m. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews responded to an eight-unit apartment complex at 15th and Kentucky streets that had smoke showing from a ground-floor apartment, McKenzi Ezell with LDCFM said in an email. Crews extinguished the fire, which they said was contained to one apartment.

No injuries were reported, but two residents were displaced. The property manager of the apartment complex was able to secure accommodations for the displaced residents, Ezell said.
