In this file photo from Aug. 4, 2020, a Lawrence Police Department patrol vehicle is pictured outside the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.
A fight between two men has led to serious injuries to both and a felony charge for one.
The man who has been charged in Douglas County District Court, Xavier Micheal Wilson, 21, of Lawrence, suffered stab wounds during the Tuesday night incident and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, while the other man was treated for serious head injuries, according to Lawrence police.
Officers responded to a disturbance call around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Harper Street, said Laura McCabe, spokesperson with the Lawrence Police Department. The men, who knew each other, had been in a fight, and officers were told that a knife was involved, she said.
Wilson was treated for stab wounds and then was booked into the Douglas County Jail later that evening, while the other man was taken to a Kansas City-area hospital to be treated for serious head injuries, McCabe said. No other details about the incident were provided.
Wilson was given a $4,000 own-recognizance bond and was released Wednesday afternoon. He is represented by defense attorney Alex Atchison, and his next scheduled court appearance is a status update on Aug. 31. Police did not have an update on the other man’s condition as of Wednesday afternoon, McCabe said.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to release Wilson’s booking photo.
