A Lawrence man is facing criminal charges after allegedly threatening passing motorists with a large rock.

The man, Jonathan Kyle Luna, 30, was arrested last week and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and interference with a law enforcement officer. The assault charge is a level-seven person felony.

Around 12:30 p.m. on April 7, Lawrence police responded to a call near the intersection of Harvard Road and Centennial Drive after motorists reported that a man was standing on the side of the road yelling and threatening to throw a large rock at them, said Lt. David Ernst with the Lawrence Police Department.

The suspect ran when police arrived, but officers were able to follow him and apprehend him inside of a business in the 900 block of Iowa Street, Ernst said.

Luna was booked into the Douglas County Jail and was released on a $10,000 bond the next day, according to the jail booking log. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
