A Lawrence man was killed and a Mayetta man seriously injured Friday evening in a two-vehicle accident on a Kansas Highway 10 access ramp.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs, the accident occurred at 6:43 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Anthony M. Royal, 55, of Mayetta, attempted to exit K-10 at the Bob Billings Parkway ramp in a 2017 Dodge Ram. The online report states Royal failed to stop at the stop sign at Bob Billings Parkway where it intersects with Kansas Highway 10, which is also known as the South Lawrence Trafficway. Royal’s vehicle collided with a 2017 BMW driven by John Thomas Kirby, 71, of Lawrence.

The Highway Patrol reports Kirby was killed in the crash. Royal was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment of suspected serious injuries.
