Lawrence police respond to report of pedestrian being hit by vehicle

Lawrence police responded Monday afternoon to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near 20th and Massachusetts streets.

Shortly after 4 p.m., an ambulance was seen leaving the scene, and the area appeared to be closed to southbound traffic.

Lt. David Ernst of the Lawrence Police Department told the Journal-World officers were investigating an injury accident at the intersection. He said a preliminary investigation suggested a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries, he said.

Ernst said all of the individuals involved in the wreck remained on scene and spoke to officers. As of 5 p.m., he said the wreck was still under investigation.
