Kansas City man indicted in Lawrence bank robbery case

A Kansas City, Kan., man has been indicted in federal court for allegedly robbing a Lawrence bank last month.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas announced Monday that a federal grand jury indicted Davonte Chaney, 29, with one count of bank robbery and one count of use of a firearm in the furtherance of a crime of violence.
According to court documents, in September Chaney allegedly used a semi-automatic pistol to rob Truity Credit Union, 2221 W. 31st St.

As the Journal-World previously reported, police responded to a reported robbery at the southern Lawrence bank on Sept. 21. Several officers were seen outside of the bank around 10 a.m.
Amy Grose, a spokeswoman for Truity Credit Union, later confirmed to the Journal-World that a robbery took place at the bank around 9:30 a.m. She said that an individual who appeared to be carrying some sort of weapon took an undetermined amount of cash from a customer service employee.
Grose said the bank would review security footage and provide the footage to law enforcement to help identify a suspect.
