Six injured Sunday in head-on crash on U.S. 24 in Jefferson County

Six people were hospitalized after a head-on crash Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 24 in Jefferson County.

According the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report, the crash occurred at 12:08 p.m at U.S. 24 mile marker 386, which is about a quarter mile east of the U.S. Highway 59 intersection. The Highway Patrol reports Bryan K. Hone, 53, of Salina, attempted to pass an eastbound truck on U.S. 24 in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox as Robert L. Simpson, 63, of Hoyt, was approaching in the westbound lane in a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier. Both drivers steered into the highway’s north ditch to avoid a head-on collision but were unsuccessful, the report states.

Hone and Sondra K. Hone, 50, of Salina, were taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with suspected serious injuries. Two passengers in the Equinox, Caleb Hone, 13, and Landon Hone, 11, both of Salina, were taken to Stormont Vail with suspected minor injuries. Simpson and a passenger in his vehicle, Cindy S. Simpson, 61, of Hoyt, also were taken to Stormont Vail with suspected minor injuries.
