A Lawrence man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after Lawrence police responded to a call regarding a shooting early Monday morning.

Albert D. Taylor, 36, was arrested around 2 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of Maine Street. Along with the attempted first-degree murder charge, he has been charged with criminal damage to property.

Patrick Compton, a spokesman for LPD, told the Journal-World that officers responded to a call near the 100 block of Michigan Street, where the caller had heard gunshots. At the scene, officers found evidence of gunshots fired into a residence. The officers later arrested Taylor at a different location and recovered a firearm.

Compton said the incident was domestic in nature and declined to provide any further information. He said an affidavit for the case would be filed with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Taylor was in the Douglas County Jail with no bond set. The Journal-World has requested Taylor’s booking photo, but has not yet received it from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
