A 23-year-old Olathe man was killed in a car crash on Kansas Highway 10 in Douglas County on Thursday morning.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tiffany Bush told the Journal-World that a semitruck heading eastbound on the highway crossed the median into the westbound traffic, crashing head-on into another vehicle. The crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. near East 1900 Road.

Robert Walston Jr., the man driving the westbound vehicle, died from the crash, according to the highway patrol’s crash log. The driver of the semitruck was injured in the crash and transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

The crash forced emergency crews to close a westbound section of the highway between Eudora and Lawrence for more than seven hours Thursday morning.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed from the Church Street exit in Eudora to East 1900 Road until around 11 a.m. Thursday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
