1 dead, 2 wounded in shooting in rural Douglas County

One person is dead and two others are injured after a shooting in rural Douglas County on Saturday night.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it responded to reports of gunshots in the 2000 block of East 1100 Road at 6:22 p.m. on Saturday. When deputies arrived, one individual was dead and two other individuals were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

The scene was secure and the public faced no threat as of late Saturday night, public information officer Jenn Hethcoat said in a press release.

The investigation was ongoing, and further details weren’t immediately available.

The address of the shooting scene is a rural property north of Lake View Lake near the Kansas River, according to Google Maps.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that at least two civilians at the scene exchanged gunfire, Journal-World news partner Operation 100 News reported.
