A 43-year-old Eudora man was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated burglary on Friday for allegedly breaking into a home and attacking a man.

Curtis J. Johnson, who is in the custody of the Douglas County Jail, was formally charged at his first appearance in Douglas County District Court on Friday afternoon. Both charges are level four felonies.

Jenn Hethcoat, a spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, told the Journal-World that deputies on Thursday responded to a report of a break-in and assault of a man at a home in the 1200 block of East 2100 Road. After police interviewed the man, he was transported to Lawrence’s hospital by ambulance.

After learning Johnson was a suspect, Eudora police located him and held him until the Sheriff’s Office could arrest and transport him to the Douglas County Jail.

On Friday, Johnson requested an own-recognizance bond, but Judge James George denied his request, setting a cash or surety bond at $50,000. George noted that Johnson was also facing charges in a separate incident, but he didn’t specify what incident that was.

Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 22.

Hethcoat said that although Johnson had been charged, the investigation was ongoing. She asked anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 785-841-0007 or Crime Stoppers at 785-843-8477.
