Fire crews responded Thursday afternoon to a fire at a Lawrence strip mall.

Firefighters were seen on the roof of the strip mall at 2201 W. 25th St., with smoke billowing out of the structure. The mall, behind Office Depot, houses Formosa Bakery and May Spa.

James McKenzie, whose wife owns the spa next to the bakery, said he saw that a telephone pole with an electrical box located behind the building had fallen on the building.

“She called me and told me her shop was on fire,” McKenzie said. “I walked behind the back and saw the telephone pole on the building and you could tell it caught the building on fire.”

Interim Chief Tom Fagan said in an email that Lawrence-Douglas Fire Medical was responding to the fire and several trucks were on scene. He said as of 4:30 p.m. no injuries had been reported.
