A man was taken by helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital after a single-car accident early Sunday morning.
The Lawrence Police Department confirmed that a vehicle traveling northbound on Kasold Drive veered off the road and struck a light pole near Harvard Road at about 4:25 a.m. on Sunday morning. The driver of the vehicle had serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to a regional medical center, after having been extricated by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews, police department spokesman Patrick Compton said via e-mail.

Riegle said she went to to the accident scene and stayed with an injured adult male driver, the only person in the vehicle, until emergency vehicles arrived about 4:30 a.m.
