UPDATE: 60-year old Lawrence woman dies after being struck by vehicle near 19th and Naismith

UPDATE: The Lawrence Police Department has confirmed that a 60-year old Lawrence woman was pronounced dead at the scene, after life-saving measures were unsuccessful. Information from the police department confirmed the woman was a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at about 8:40 p.m. on Friday. Further details on the woman or the driver of the vehicle were not immediately available.

Lawrence police on Friday night were working the scene of a fatal accident at 19th Street and Naismith Drive.

The accident, according to emergency radio traffic, involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Police spokesman Patrick Compton said in an email to the Journal-World that 19th Street had been closed from Ousdahl Road to Naismith Drive while police worked.

Further details were not immediately available.
