Information from the police department confirmed the woman was a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at about 8:40 p.m. on Friday. Lawrence police on Friday night were working the scene of a fatal accident at 19th Street and Naismith Drive.
The accident, according to emergency radio traffic, involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Police spokesman Patrick Compton said in an email to the Journal-World that 19th Street had been closed from Ousdahl Road to Naismith Drive while police worked.
