A Lawrence man is facing charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon after making his first appearance in Douglas County District Court on Monday.

Michael A. Miller, 26, appeared in court from the Douglas County Jail and was formally charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, which are both felonies, and driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.

Lawrence police arrested Miller on suspicion of the charges in the 1100 block of Vermont Street around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, according to jail records. LPD did not respond to the Journal-World’s request for additional information on Monday.

The prosecuting attorney said during the hearing that there are two alleged victims in the case.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office refused to provide the Journal-World with Miller’s booking photo.

Judge James T. George set a $12,000 cash or surety bond. Miller’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 13.
