An Overland Park man was charged Tuesday in connection with a reported robbery attempt and shooting that injured a teen in Lawrence last year.

Brandon R. Jimenez, 34, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery, all mid- to high-level felonies.

A 17-year-old boy suffered a minor injury as a result of a gunshot wound just before 4 a.m. Dec. 9, 2019, Lawrence Police Department spokesperson Patrick Compton said at the time.

Officers were dispatched to LMH Health when hospital staff reported that a juvenile male patient had arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound, Compton said. The shooting reportedly had occurred in the 3300 block of Magnolia Circle, which is near 33rd Street and Ousdahl Road.

The charging document filed against Jimenez alleges that he agreed with other people to commit a robbery, purchased a firearm and drove to the location. It alleges that Jimenez also pointed an AK assault rifle at the teen in a robbery attempt, armed it and fired it.

In a separate case, Jimenez was charged Tuesday with driving without a license and interference with law enforcement, both misdemeanors, and driving without headlights when headlights are needed, a traffic offense subject to a fine only.

The judge set Jimenez’s bond at $100,000 cash or surety in the felony case and $750 cash or surety in the traffic case. As of Tuesday afternoon, he remained in custody of the Douglas County Jail.

If Jimenez makes bond, he is not to have any contact with any alleged victims or witnesses or any co-defendants. He would be required to be on house arrest with electronic monitoring, and he would not be allowed to possess any firearms or use any illegal drugs.

The Journal-World requested Jimenez’s booking photo from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon but did not immediately receive a response to that request.

Police had made two arrests in connection with the incident shortly after it occurred in December. A 22-year-old Overbrook woman and a 20-year-old Greeley woman were arrested and later charged with aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. One of the women entered a plea agreement and was sentenced to two years of probation in June, court records indicate; the other’s case is still pending in Douglas County District Court.
