Lawrence police are investigating a report of an armed robbery at a cash-advance business.

At 3:23 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a possible armed robbery at Advance America, 2223 Louisiana St., Lt. David Ernst said via email. Witnesses reported that a roughly 6-foot-tall white man with an average build had displayed a knife and demanded money, Ernst said.

The man then fled northeast on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, wearing a long-sleeved navy blue shirt, faded jeans and aviator-style sunglasses, Ernst said.

No one was injured in connection with the incident, Ernst confirmed.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call police at 785-832-7509 or to provide a tip to Douglas County CrimeStoppers at 785-843-TIPS. Tips to CrimeStoppers can be anonymous.

Advance America was also the target of a robbery in February 2019, the Journal-World previously reported.

A 29-year-old man was indicted in connection with that incident in June 2019. Court documents show that the defendant in that case pleaded guilty to two counts of interference with commerce by means of robbery, and he is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
