A Lawrence man has been charged in Douglas County District Court with multiple child sex crimes.
Lawrence police arrested Michael K. Aller, 31, Wednesday evening, according to Douglas County Jail records. He was charged Thursday afternoon with attempted rape, electronic solicitation and two counts of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child, all mid- to high-severity felonies.
The complaint in the case alleges that earlier this week, Aller “drove to a meeting place” with the intent to commit a rape, and that he enticed or solicited a child he believed to be between the ages of 14 and 16 “to commit or submit to an unlawful sexual act.”
“Man, I made a big mistake — I can’t believe this,” Aller said during the hearing. The judge told him to discuss it with his lawyer.
The judge set Aller’s bond at $160,000 cash or surety. Should Aller make bond, he will be placed on house arrest with GPS monitoring, and he is to have no contact with the alleged victim or any minors, including family members, the judge said.
As of Thursday afternoon, Aller remained in custody of the Douglas County Jail. His next court hearing is set for Nov. 17.
The Journal-World requested Aller’s booking photo from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office but did not immediately receive a response about whether it would be released Thursday afternoon.
