A woman was injured in a reported domestic violence incident just before 4 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Mississippi Street, according to police.

A weapon was involved and the woman was cut in the incident, said Patrick Compton, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department, though he was not immediately able to provide more information.

Lawrence police officers who responded to the incident said they believed the woman’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening, Compton said. He noted that the officers are not medical experts, but their opinion was based on their experience.

The woman was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. Compton said police had a person in custody in connection with the incident, and officers were still on the scene as of 5 p.m. Thursday.
