Early-morning fire damages new Moroccan restaurant in Lawrence

An early-morning fire damaged a Moroccan restaurant that had just opened this month in Lawrence.
Firefighters were dispatched to Argana Cafe, 1606 W. 23rd St., at 4:09 a.m. Friday, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical. When first responders arrived on the scene at 4:15 a.m., flames were showing from the exterior of the building, according to the release.
Firefighters got the fire under control by 4:32 a.m., according to the release. No one was injured.
Investigators were working to determine the cause Friday morning, and the estimated damage had not yet been determined.
As the Journal-World reported last week, Lawrence restaurateur Yasine Marouazi opened the cafe in mid-July. He could not immediately be reached Friday morning.
