Police arrested a 35-year-old Lawrence man late Wednesday on suspicion of five counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.

Lawrence police were dispatched to a reported shooting around 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of East 19th Street, Sgt. Amy Rhoads, public information officer for the Lawrence Police Department, said via email Thursday.

“It was reported the shooting was a result of a domestic disturbance with children present,” Rhoads said. “Nobody was struck during the shooting.”

Multiple shots were fired in the incident, Rhoads said.

Police said there was a short struggle while the suspect was being detained, but the department said the man was later arrested without incident.

The arrest occurred at the same location listed as the man’s home address on the jail’s booking log. As of 1 p.m. Thursday, he was being held without bond at the jail.

Rhoads said an affidavit had been submitted to the Douglas County district attorney’s office for charging consideration.
