WaKeeney woman injured in crash on I-70 in Douglas County

A 61-year-old WaKeeney woman suffered minor injuries in a car accident off Interstate 70 in Douglas County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Vera Mae Murphy was reportedly westbound in the center lane of the highway around 10:48 a.m. Monday when a semi-truck in the right lane swerved into the center lane, according to the report. Murphy swerved to the left, then overcorrected and swerved across the right lane and shoulder.

Murphy’s passenger car went up an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the north ditch, according to the report. She suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka.

The accident occurred near the 192 mile marker, according to the report. That’s about 6 miles east of the Topeka service area.

A passenger in Murphy’s vehicle, 69-year-old Charles Edward Murphy, also of WaKeeney, suffered no apparent injuries, according to the report. Both were wearing seat belts.
