Two Lawrence police officers were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries Friday after an altercation with a suspect downtown.
Officers responded to the area of Eighth and Massachusetts streets just before 1:30 p.m. Friday for a nuisance complaint. Witnesses said a man was yelling at people and causing a disturbance, Lawrence Police Department spokesman Patrick Compton said via email Friday.
The man wouldn’t comply with officers’ commands and had to be physically restrained, Compton said. The man and two police officers suffered injuries as a result of the altercation. The man was treated at the scene, Compton said.

The man was then arrested on suspicion of one count each of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.
Both officers had been released from the hospital Friday afternoon, Compton said.
The 43-year-old man was being held in custody without bond as of Friday evening, according to jail records. The booking log does not list an address for the man.
