Two girls, ages 13 and 14, were arrested Wednesday night after allegedly stealing a van.

Lawrence police officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Lindenwood Lane around 8:52 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two juveniles stealing a white transit van, Sgt. Amy Rhoads, public affairs officer for the Lawrence Police Department, said via email Thursday.

An officer saw the van near 23rd and Harper streets and attempted a traffic stop, Rhoads said. However, the vehicle accelerated and a pursuit ensued.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the 2000 block of East 23rd Terrace, Rhoads said, and the teens were arrested without incident and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

No injuries were reported, Rhoads said.
