House fire displaces 4 people in central Lawrence

A house fire in central Lawrence displaced four people on Wednesday evening, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

Firefighters responded to the house fire at 1832 W. 22nd St., near the intersection of 23rd and Iowa streets, at around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to scanner traffic.

Division Chief Tom Fagan said Thursday in an email to the Journal-World that the fire started outside of the house and then spread to an exterior wall. There were no injuries reported, Fagan said, but the home’s four occupants have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Fagan said. No damage estimate was available as of Thursday evening.
