A Lawrence woman was sentenced Friday to serve two days in jail followed by 18 months of probation for a DUI car accident that left another woman injured in August.
Autumn Sky Hale, 43, pleaded no contest last month and a judge found her guilty of aggravated battery, a felony, and driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.
The accident occurred early on Aug. 13, 2019, at the intersection of 19th Street and Haskell Avenue. Hale failed to stop at a flashing red light and hit a vehicle that was passing through a flashing yellow light.
At the plea hearing, Assistant District Attorney Cathy Eaton said the victim was still dealing with a spine injury as a result of the accident.
Hale must obtain a substance abuse evaluation and complete its recommendations, attend a DUI victim impact panel and write a letter of apology to the victim, Dorothy Kliem, trial assistant for the Douglas County district attorney’s office, said via email Friday.
Hale must also pay fines totaling $1,363, Kliem said. The court waived her appointed attorney fees.
Should Hale’s probation be revoked, she faces an underlying sentence of seven months in prison and a year of post-release supervision.
