Woman, 72, dies as result of reported head-on crash in Lawrence

A woman who was critically injured in a car accident Friday evening has died, Lawrence police say.

Katherine Bruner, 72, had been flown by air ambulance to a regional hospital after the reported head-on collision, Sgt. Amy Rhoads said via email Monday. She later died from her injuries.

The accident occurred around 7:07 p.m. Friday near 23rd Street and Silicon Avenue, Rhoads said. A portion of 23rd Street between Harper Street and Haskell Avenue was closed for a few hours as first responders worked the crash, the Journal-World reported.

Bruner was driving a Rav4, Rhoads said. The driver of the other car, a Ford Mustang, had “very minor” injuries and was released from the scene, Rhoads said.

Lawrence police ask that any witnesses to the accident call the department at 785-832-7509.
