Police searching for man suspected of armed robbery at Lawrence payday loan store

Police are searching for a man who is suspected of the armed robbery of a Lawrence payday loan business Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Check Into Cash, 2108 W. 27th St., at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, according to Patrick Compton, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department.

A man allegedly indicated that he was armed with a weapon and demanded money. He then left the business with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot, heading northwest, Compton said.

The suspect was described as a white man who is approximately 5-foot-6 or 5-foot-7 and 220 pounds. He was seen wearing sunglasses, a plaid shirt and dark outerwear at the time of the incident.

As of 3 p.m., police were still searching for the suspect, Compton said.
