Person taken to hospital after 3-vehicle crash on 23rd Street, Lawrence police say

One person was taken to the hospital Thursday after a three-vehicle crash on 23rd Street, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

Around 12:25 p.m. Thursday, a red sedan was traveling eastbound on 23rd Street near Learnard Avenue. For an unknown reason, the sedan crossed the center line and headed into oncoming westbound traffic, said Patrick Compton, a spokesperson for LPD.

The sedan struck two other vehicles, then hit a guardrail and came to a stop on the westbound side of the road, Compton said.

The driver of the sedan was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, Compton said, and no other injuries were reported.

Westbound 23rd Street was closed for a short period as first responders worked the crash, but it had reopened by around 1:15 p.m., Compton said.
