Man suffers serious injuries in Douglas County crash, KHP report says

A 30-year-old man suffered suspected serious injuries in a crash Tuesday afternoon in southeastern Douglas County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Devin M. Brooks, of Yucca Valley, Calif., was northbound in a Ford passenger car on East 2200 Road around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, and a semitruck was westbound on North 200 Road, or U.S. 56 Highway, according to the report. The area is roughly between Baldwin City and Edgerton.

Brooks failed to yield the right of way to traffic on the highway, and the semitruck struck his vehicle on the passenger side, the report states.

Brooks was taken to the University of Kansas hospital. He had been wearing his seat belt, according to the crash report.

The driver and a passenger in the semitruck were not injured, according to the report. Both were wearing seat belts.

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the crash, according to Jenn Hethcoat, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.
