A boy suffered serious injuries as the result of an apparent gunshot wound Wednesday night, according to Lawrence police.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lawrence police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West 25th Street to what was initially reported as an unknown medical emergency, LPD spokesperson Patrick Compton said via email just after midnight Thursday.

When officers arrived, they discovered the boy and immediately began rendering aid, Compton said.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, Compton said. Scanner traffic monitored by the Journal-World indicated that the boy was flown to a Kansas City-area hospital.

“At this point, the incident remains under investigation,” Compton said. “However, no foul play is suspected at this time. We will release more information as it becomes available.”
