A Baldwin City man was charged Wednesday with convincing someone to sell sexual relations, according to court documents.

James Ryan Reynolds, 43, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at an address in the 2300 block of West 31st Street, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log. He was released a couple of hours later on $2,000 cash or surety bond, the log indicates.

On Wednesday, Reynolds had his first appearance and was formally charged in Douglas County District Court with promoting the sale of sexual relations, according to online court records. The charge is a level 9, or low-severity, felony. The charge against him alleges that on Sept. 11, Reynolds induced another person 18 or older “to become a person who sells sexual relations.”

Reynolds has hired Olathe attorney Carl Cornwell to represent him, online court records show. Cornwell said he and his client decline to comment at this time.

Reynolds’ next court appearance is set for Oct. 15.
