A gun was fired during an armed robbery Monday in northern Lawrence, but no one was injured, police say.

Police responded to a home in the 1300 block of George Court around 7:37 a.m. Monday, according to Sgt. Amy Rhoads, public affairs officer for the Lawrence Police Department. The neighborhood is north of the intersection of Michigan Street and West Second Street.

“It was reported that the male victim was entering his vehicle when he was approached from behind by two male suspects demanding items,” Rhoads said via email Tuesday. One of the suspects had a gun, she said.

“A physical altercation ensued and a firearm was discharged,” Rhoads said.

The suspects fled northbound on Michigan Street in a silver Nissan passenger vehicle, Rhoads said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with more information on the incident contact LPD at 785-832-7509. People can also call in anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-843-8477.
