A Tonganoxie man was charged Tuesday in Douglas County District Court with electronic solicitation of a child.

Prosecutors allege that Jason L. Bledsoe, 39, enticed or solicited a person whom he believed to be under the age of 14 to commit or submit to a sexual act, according to the charging document in his case. The charge alleges that the solicitation took place between Sept. 16 and Oct. 12.

Electronic solicitation is a level-1 felony, according to the charging document. That is the most severe type of felony that follows standard Kansas sentencing guidelines rather than presuming life in prison.

Bledsoe was arrested at 4 a.m. Oct. 13 in the 500 block of Tennessee Street in Lawrence, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log. He was released on $75,000 surety bond, and he had his first appearance in court Tuesday.

Bledsoe’s next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 19, online court records indicate. Bledsoe is being represented by Olathe attorney Carl E. Cornwell, according to court records.
