Douglas County law enforcement and emergency personnel responded Tuesday morning to a two-vehicle injury accident on U.S. Highway 24/40 north of Lawrence.

The head-on crash occurred shortly before 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 24/40 and East 1500 Road, east of TeePee Junction, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Charlie Cooper.

A white GMC truck, driven by Ernest E. Butell Jr., of Lawrence, was headed east on U.S. 24/40, crossed into the westbound lane and struck a black GMC SUV driven by Jennifer Hull, of Lawrence, Cooper said. Neither vehicle contained passengers.

Emergency personnel extricated Hull from her SUV, Cooper said. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to area hospitals “with serious injuries,” she said.

No further details were available Tuesday.
