A Fort Riley man was arrested late Saturday on suspicion of attempted rape at a downtown venue, jail records indicate.

However, the man, Luis Enrique Ramires, 22, was charged Monday in Douglas County District Court with aggravated sexual battery, a midlevel-severity felony.

The charging document in his case alleges that Ramires touched a 17-year-old victim who was overcome by force.

Ramires was arrested at 1020 Massachusetts St., the booking log shows. The address belongs to The Granada.

Lawrence police officer Shawn Gross told the Journal-World via email Sunday morning that he had limited information to provide because of the nature of the incident. However, he said the alleged victim did not report any physical injuries and an adult male was arrested without incident.

The Journal-World could not immediately confirm Tuesday whether Ramires is a member of the military.

In court Monday, a judge set Ramires’ bond at $5,000 own-recognizance and allowed him pretrial release, jail records indicate. Ramires’ next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 3.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to release Ramires’ booking photo.
