A ticket broker’s lawsuit seeking to keep confidential the details of its agreement with Kansas Athletics Inc. is set to go to trial before a judge next year.

Overland Park-based Tickets for Less LLC is the exclusive broker for Kansas men’s basketball tickets, the Journal-World has reported. The company filed the lawsuit in December 2018, hoping to keep what it argues are “trade secrets” under wraps.

The case was prompted by a rival ticket broker, Overland Park-based Goody Tickets LLC, filing an open records request for an unredacted Tickets for Less agreement with KU. The company has argued that the agreement should be a public record because it relates to tickets distributed “by the publicly funded Kansas Athletics to its donors,” according to court documents.

After hearing oral arguments in the lawsuit Tuesday, Douglas County District Court Judge Amy Hanley said she had not heard enough evidence to determine whether the unredacted agreement — which she has read — contains trade secrets that should be protected.

Hanley previously granted a temporary injunction to block KU from releasing the agreement until she makes a ruling in the case.

A two-day bench trial is set for April 20-21, 2020. A pretrial conference is set for April 3.
