Driver arrested after Sunday chase in southwest Lawrence
An individual was arrested early Sunday afternoon after reportedly leading law enforcement officers on a chase through southwest Lawrence.
Sgt. Rob Murry of the Lawrence Police Department said a driver was arrested at the end of a pursuit that ended shortly after noon in the 2700 block of Grand Circle, in a neighborhood just south of Holcom Sports Complex. The driver was the only person arrested in the incident, Murry said.
Murry said there was property damage from the incident, but he did not know the extent or location of the damage. He had no other information on the incident, which remained under investigation Sunday afternoon, he said.
According to Douglas County Jail booking logs, Justin Lynn Nichols, 36, of Lawrence, was arrested at 12:08 p.m. Sunday at 2755 Grand Circle on suspicion of fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, kidnapping in flight or the commission of any crime and interference with a law enforcement officer. As of Sunday afternoon, Nichols remained in custody in the Douglas County Jail, according to jail logs.
Officers first reported pursuit of an erratically moving vehicle to dispatch at 11:30 a.m. on Kansas Highway 10 near the 27th Street intersection. Scanner traffic indicated the pursuit continued on various streets in southwest Lawrence.
