Report of unoccupied raft near Eudora prompts river search by several agencies

Updated at 4:24 p.m. Thursday, May 2

A report of an unoccupied raft in the Kansas River near Eudora led to several area agencies searching the river Thursday morning, but by Thursday afternoon the search was called off.

At 10:10 a.m. a passerby told emergency personnel about the raft, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Tom Fagan. The raft was reportedly floating in the Kansas River near the Kansas River Bridge in Eudora.

Fagan said several agencies in Douglas County were collaborating with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical to investigate, including the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, City of Eudora Police, Eudora Township and Wakarusa Township.

The search was conducted to the east and west of the Kansas River Bridge with watercraft and drones, Fagan said. The area was declared “cleared” by late afternoon and the case was closed, he said. No other details were provided.
