Police: Armed robbery reported at Lawrence Subway was a hoax

A man brandishing a knife allegedly robbed an employee outside the Subway restaurant in west Lawrence Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called to the restaurant at 4000 W. Sixth St. at approximately 2:30 p.m. for a reported robbery, Lawrence Police Officer Derrick Smith said.

Smith said the suspect was described as an African-American man wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and a black scarf covering his face. The man reportedly robbed the employee of an undisclosed amount of cash while the employee was outside on the north side of the business.

After robbing the employee, the suspect ran north from the area, Smith said. The victim was not injured in the incident.

The case is still under investigation, Smith said.
