An upcoming event is planned to help residents with convictions in Douglas County figure out if those convictions could be erased from their records.

The “Clean Slate Expungement Clinic” will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Douglas County District Court, 111 E. 11th St.

Organizers invite people with criminal convictions in Douglas County District Court or Lawrence Municipal Court to attend to learn if they qualify for free legal assistance to seek expungement of convictions. If a conviction is expunged, with certain exceptions, no information related to the arrest or conviction may be disclosed.

For more information, call the Douglas County Legal Aid Society at 785-864-5564. The society is putting on the clinic with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Lawrence City Prosecutor’s Office, Kansas Legal Services and University of Kansas Legal Aid Clinic.
