Highway patrol pursues suspected stolen vehicle into Lawrence
The Kansas Highway Patrol briefly pursued a suspected stolen vehicle in Lawrence on Tuesday.
Lt. Mark Christesen, of KHP, told the Journal-World he spotted a black Jeep Cherokee around 9:30 a.m. on Interstate 70 that police believe to be stolen. Christesen said he attempted to pull over the vehicle, which was occupied by a white male and a white female, but the driver ignored him and exited the highway at the 202 exit in Lawrence.
Christesen said he pursued the vehicle, which went south on McDonald Drive and turned onto Rockledge Road to get to Sixth Street. Christesen said he ended the pursuit at Sixth Street because of traffic.
Police found the vehicle abandoned behind the Dillons grocery store at 4701 W. Sixth St. Christesen said a gun, a knife and phone were discovered in the vehicle. The suspects were then seen running away from the scene, he said.
Police have not located the suspects and are not actively searching the area. Christesen said the police have information on the suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
