Story updated at 8:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23:

An accident between a vehicle and a motorcycle on 23rd Street left a man critically injured and required parts of the street to be closed down Friday evening.

A man was riding a motorcycle westbound on 23rd Street and collided with an SUV southbound from East Hills Road, Lawrence Police Officer Drew Fennelly said via email Friday night.

The motorcycle driver was taken to a Kansas City-area trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The SUV driver remained on scene and was not injured, Fennelly said.

According to a tweet from Lawrence police just after 7 p.m. Friday, 23rd Street westbound was closed from Kansas Highway 10 “and will be for some time.” Traffic must continue to Haskell, the tweet said.

Fennelly had no further information to release Friday night.
