Burglary reported at Islamic Center of Lawrence; police seek help identifying suspect

Lawrence police suspect this man in connection with a reported burglary that occurred Aug. 13, 2019, at the Islamic Center of Lawrence.

Lawrence police are seeking the public’s help investigating a burglary last week at the Islamic Center of Lawrence, 1917 Naismith Drive.

The burglary occurred around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, according to a news release from department spokesman Patrick Compton. The suspect is a heavyset black man in his 20s, with a light mustache, who was wearing a red NBA hoodie, a red or maroon hat and blue jeans, Compton said.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect entering the building and removing two donation boxes, containing $1,000 to $2,000 in cash, Compton said.

Police think the suspect was driving a red or maroon four-door sedan. If you know the man in the photos, police ask that you call the department at 785-832-7509.
