Shawnee man faces gun-related charges in Lawrence after traffic stop near KU

A Shawnee man was charged Tuesday as the result of a traffic stop near the University of Kansas campus.
Deputy Chief James Anguiano of KUPD told the Journal-World via email Tuesday morning that officers stopped a car for a traffic violation at 12:15 a.m. in the area of 19th Street and Ousdahl Road.
Anguiano said a person was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and stolen property, and that officers recovered a stolen handgun.
Markivius Cornilius Woods, 26, was charged in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday with low-level felony theft, for allegedly stealing a gun with a value of less than $25,000; misdemeanor criminal use of weapons for possessing a firearm as someone “both addicted to and an unlawful user of a controlled substance”; and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, court documents show.
As of Tuesday evening, Woods was still in Douglas County Jail. His bond was set at $4,000, online court records show, and he is scheduled to appear in court next on Aug. 13.
