An associate dean with Texas Tech University is the second announced candidate vying to become the new leader of KU’s School of Education & Human Services.

Heather Greenhalgh-Spencer will give a public presentation about her vision for the KU school at 3:45 p.m. on Monday in Pearson Hall on the Lawrence campus.

Greenhalgh-Spencer currently is an associate dean in Texas Tech’s Graduate School, and also is a professor of curriculum and instruction at the university.

Greenhalg-Spencer is one of four finalists for the dean’s position, which will be open at the conclusion of the school year when current Dean Rick Ginsburg will leave the role and return to the KU faculty after 21 years as the dean of the education school.

Lisa Wolf-Wendel, a professor of higher education in KU’s Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, was previously announced as another finalist for the position.

Greenhalgh-Spencer is a leading researcher on topics including how organization change can expand learning pathways in K-12 and higher education. She also teaches courses on e-learning, data literacy, and leads a Texas program that provides support to teachers in the state.

She earned her doctorate in education policy, organization and leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has a master’s degree from the University of Utah and undergraduate degrees from Brigham Young University.

The two remaining finalists for the dean’s position will be announced a few days ahead of their planned public presentations, which are scheduled for March 12 and March 23.
